http://www.indymedia.org/print.php3?article_id=231238

Auszüge:

Although completely suppressed in the U.S. media, the answer to the Iraq enigma is simple yet shocking. The upcoming war in Iraq war is mostly about how the ruling class at Langley and the Bush oligarchy view hydrocarbons at the geo-strategic level, and the overarching macroeconomic threats to the U.S. dollar from the euro.

The Real Reason for this upcoming war is this administration`s goal of preventing further OPEC momentum towards the euro as an oil transaction currency standard. However, in order to pre-empt OPEC, they need to gain geo-strategic control of Iraq along with its 2nd largest proven oil reserves. ...

The Federal Reserve's greatest nightmare is that OPEC will switch its international transactions from a dollar standard to a euro standard. Iraq actually made this switch in Nov. 2000 (when the euro was worth around 80 cents), and has actually made off like a bandit considering the dollar's steady depreciation against the euro. (Note: the dollar declined 15% against the euro in 2002.)

The real reason the Bush administration wants a puppet government in Iraq - or more importantly, the reason why the corporate-military-industrial network conglomerate wants a puppet government in Iraq - is so that it will revert back to a dollar standard and stay that way."
(While also hoping to veto any wider OPEC momentum towards the euro, especially from Iran, the 2nd largest OPEC producer who is actively discussing a switch to euros for its oil exports). ...

"Saddam sealed his fate when he decided to switch to the euro in late 2000 (and later converted his $10 billion reserve fund at the U.N. to euros) - at that point, another manufactured Gulf War become inevitable under Bush II. Only the most extreme circumstances could possibly stop that now and I strongly doubt anything can - short of Saddam getting replaced with a pliant regime."

Iraq promises Germany billions in Orders for anti-war stance

Financial Times Deutschland (via Bloomberg) | Feb 12 2003

Berlin, Feb. 11 (Bloomberg) -- Iraq wants to reward Germany with 2 billion euros ($2.15 billion) in orders this year for its ``fair stance'' in the middle-eastern country's confrontation with the U.S., the Financial Times Deutschland said, citing a diplomat. German companies will be given ``highest priority'' and thousands of jobs will be created in Europe's largest economy, Iraq's German charge d'affaires Muayad Hussian told the paper. Iraq plans to boost its trade volume with Germany ten times to 3 billion euros this year, the diplomat said. German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder's refusal to back the U.S. in a possible strike against Iraq and Germany's unwillingness to vote in favor of a resolution sanctioning military action in the United Nations Security Council may hurt exports, warned Anton Boerner, president of the BGA association of wholesalers and exporters, last month. The German economy barely grew last year. Only a 2.9 percent rise in exports prevented Europe's largest economy from slipping into recession. Exports contribute about a third of gross domestic product and the U.S. buys a tenth of Germany's exports.

@ hunble

Hi Hunble!

Thanks for replying to my thread!

Well, it is good to see you laugh. We will see who laughs last! ;-)

As you were in the military, and you also have been to many theaters of crisis and war around the world, you should also be aware of how most of the people in the world used to view the US, as opposed to how they are starting to view the US now.

In this Gulf war, you have very little support from Arab governments and almost zero support from their populations!

If the US-friendly Arab regimes continue cooperating with the US in case of a new Iraq-war, they are at risk of being overthrown by their people!

The situation in the Far East (esp. China and Japan) is also starting to become critical for the US. China has announced to get rid of their US$-depot! More than 70% of the JApanese oppose the war!

America is being viewed more as a threat to global security than as a guarantor!

Since Nixon, the US$ is not backed by any hard value (like gold e.g.) anymore, it is just fiat money! And the institution that prints the money does not even belong to the American people or the government, it belongs to a private consortium of international banks: The owners of the Federal Reserve. They can create new US$ just by pushing a few buttons on a computer!!!

If world trade, or just the oil trade switches to Euro (which is the only currency right now that could take the role of the US$ at the moment) as the new currency of choice, can you imagine the results for your economy?

I agree that Saddam is a brutal dictator and that the Iraqi people would be much better off without his regime! But a war with innocent victims (nobody can estimate the number yet) and an American military regime is not the right alternative, and it is not a democratic or Christian way of acting either!

How can the US prevent the whole middle-east from going up in flames, if it stays on this war-path? Do you see any possibilities for that?

Your view on things may not always be shared by me, but it is always welcome!

Greetings and peace,
